Update on my Furniture Project & Zoe’s Big Test Day!
September 9 2025 – Tuesday
Entry #21
Today, Zoe has her final test for her licensing to become an RMT. Because it's in downtown Toronto, and because she hates driving, I'll be taking her. I know she needs it, so it's no problem.
I woke up at 4:30 am today, so I did my reading and a bit of planning.
I got the second glue-up done on the table legs yesterday. I also tested V1 of my jig, which didn't work by the way. I decided to do a full redesign, which is almost done printing. I'm also going to start filming myself testing it, maybe I can make a mini story video on how I came up with it.
I didn't end up editing or working on the table top yesterday, which I'm o.k. with. I got a decent amount done, and I can always start with a rough edit while I wait for Zoe to do her test (which is like 3 hours). I want to get the table legs dowelled before we leave, so they can dry while I'm gone. I just don't have an idea of how I'll make the dowel right now.
Maybe I don't bother with it. The glue joint seems pretty sturdy already. I also need to figure out an edge profile for the legs. I was thinking a simple roundover would be nice, but I kind of like the square look, so maybe a chamfer? If I did a chamfer, it'd be easier to continue in the tight corner where the router wouldn't fit. Can you even chamfer rounded(curved) edges? I don't think I ever have. I'll do some tests to find what looks best, but I think I need to do my first 80-grit sand first.
